Highway 50 is known as the 'Loneliest Road in America' since the communities and services it passes through are few and far between. But imagine Highway 50 being even more desolate than it is. We're taking a step back in time, all the way back to 1906.

One Lane Only

Taking a trip from Grand Junction to Delta via U.S. Highway 50 used to look very different. There wasn't a two-lane highway in each direction, there was just one lane.

Her grandfather, Herman W. Vorbeck was on the Grand Junction football team in 1903 and was interested in photography, according to her Facebook post.

Nothing Around As Far As the Eye Can See on Highway 50

In his collection, Karen found a picture of Highway 50 from1906. The picture shows two people standing in front of their car on a narrow dirt road with nothing around as far as the eye can see, but some planks of wood.
