UPDATE: Cameron Peak Fire at 16,461 Acres On Thursday

The Cameron Peak fire has grown to 16,461 acres as of Thursday morning and remains a full suppression fire, according to the Incident Information System.

Did you notice the wind and afternoon shower yesterday? I was wondering how that would impact the Cameron Peak fire. Wednesday's wind did push the fire south, starting multiple spot fires near Wright Reservoir and crews are working to contain them.

My lawn furniture was blown over this morning so I guess the wind really picked up. Aerial crews had to shut down operations because the wind was so strong.

A fire weather watch has been issued for Thursday with a forecast of dry thunderstorms and winds even stronger than yesterday.

Crews will continue to remove brush near structures and set up pumps, hoses, and sprinklers were most effective. Expect closures on Colorado Highway 14 from Rustic to Gould. Fire crews are asking you to avoid Poudre Canyon as they are utilizing that area for fire containment.

Larimer County has implemented mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders around the fire area and Canyon Lakes Ranger District is under stage 2 fire restrictions.

No structures or facilities have been damaged, and no firefighter injuries have been reported.

On Wednesday, Governor Polis issued a 30 day fire ban for all of Colorado.
