Something I have been thinking about for years is finally coming to Northern Colorado: Tiny homes for homeless veterans.

On Thursday, Longmont broke ground on the Veterans Community Project's Longmont Village. According to 9News, some 150 people attended the ceremony.

The Longmont Village will include 26 tiny homes and a 3,000-foot community center. Veterans can live in the homes rent-free with utilities paid. The units come fully furnished.

These veterans however wont be living small, they will be living tiny in 340 square-foot family homes and 240 square feet for singles.

Residents will work with specially-trained case managers in support of trauma and mental health with the intention of moving to permanent housing in a few years.

Longmont beat out 700 other cities interested in hosting the Veterans Community Project, according to 9 News.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who recently vowed to be the nations leader for housing solutions, spoke at the ground event. He was joined by the Veterans Community Project co-founder Mark Solomon who said about 40,000 veterans are homeless across the United States.
