Grand Valley runners have a number of opportunities to participate in various running events throughout the year, but here's one that will appeal especially to the non-runners.

It's FAMpoint5K. Let me put that another way. This is not a 5K. It's .5. In other words, this run is about one-third of a mile. That's it. And that's why this event is perfect for non-runners.

The distance isn't long. And about halfway down the trail, there's a place to stop for donuts. At the end of the race is a beer or soft drink, sliders, and pretzel bites - and maybe a chair massage.

The registration fee is $40 and all proceeds will benefit FAM programming for foster youth and alumni. There is a discounted fee of $25 for kids 7-17, and ages 6 and under are free

FAM stands for Foster Alumni Mentors. This local program provides guidance and support for young people aged 17-26 who age out of the foster care program.

This family-friendly event will start on the riverfront trail at the Botanical Gardens and will end at Edgewater Brewery where musical entertainment will be provided by Grand Junction's own Lincoln Pants Band, and special guest, Sharane Calister from season 14 of The Voice, who will also be sharing her personal story of coming out of foster care.

Of course, runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate, but if you are one who has felt left out when it comes to 5k events because you aren't a runner, this one's for you. You can do this! It's fun, it's for a good cause, there are donuts, and you don't even have to break a sweat.
