Mesa County Valley School District 51 encompasses a large number of schools in and around Grand Junction. But it takes a lot more than the buildings and staff at the schools to keep the district operating.

Some parents and community members who are active in the schools know a lot about the basic functions of one of Mesa County's largest employers, but it takes a huge number of professionals beyond the schools to keep the doors open.

In an effort to educate the public about aspects of education beyond the classroom, the district is offering monthly seminars allowing people to 'Explore D51.'

The seminars are held once a month from September through May on the second Thursday of each month from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Coffee, water, and a light snack will be available to attendees.

In addition to learning more about the people outside the classroom that assist in making teaching and learning possible, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss everything from maintenance and construction, technology, transportation, school finance, safety and security, performance-based learning and more.

The seminars are hosted by the school district and the School District 51 Foundation.
