We have a lot more official state symbols that represent Colorado than I thought. Colorado has a state cactus, a state insect, state fossil, state reptile and more. Here are some facts about our great state of Colorado, from our state sport to state pet:

Colorado's State Sport
The official sport of Colorado is probably not what you're thinking. Our state sport is pack burro racing. Pack burro racing continues to be a tradition in Colorado and there are a couple of different legends of how it got started.

Colorado's State Pet
Colorado's official state pet is just straight up adorable. Our official state pet are pets adopted from shelters and rescues. I've currently got two of Colorado's state pets and I can't imagine life without them.

Colorado's State Dance
The official state dance is the square dance. The square dance became Colorado's state dance in 1992.

Colorado's State Amphibian
Yes, Colorado does has a state amphibian and it's the Western tiger salamander. This is one of the largest salamanders in Northern America.

Colorado's State Rock
Colorado's official state rock is the Yule Marble, thanks to a Girl Scout Troop. You can find Yule Marble in the Colorado Capitol and other places like the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

Colorado's State Reptile
You can thank fourth graders (and Governor Ritter) for choosing Colorado's state reptile. The official reptile of Colorado is the Western painted turtle.
