I don't know about you but I love a good redneck bar, even better a good redneck town to explore, sit down, have a drink and get to know the locals. I grew up in a tiny town in Northeast Ohio where the West Virginia and Pennsylvania borders meet so I KNOW what's it's like to grow up in a redneck way.

Now according to Merriam Webster, the official definition of a redneck is... a white member of the Southern rural laboring class. So while that may be the "official definition of the word, many folks have their own ideas about what makes a town, a redneck town, things like these...

Small town
Least amount of high school graduates
Number of bars per city
Number of mobile home parks per capita
Number of tobacco stores per city (they should have included marijuana dispensaries)
Number of places to get fishing gear
Number of guns and ammo stores per city
Walmarts, Golden Corrals, Bass Pro Shops and Dollar Generals nearby.

I've always considered myself a redneck at heart... I'm proud of where I'm from and have no shame in my game. You'll find some of the most real most down-to-earth people in these kinds of places.

Something I've always done when I've moved all over the country...from Texas to Nevada to California to Washington and finally, Colorado is, I like to find these random small towns and find out more about them...the best places to eat, drink, play, etc.

Recently, I was on the old "Google machine" and came across the "10 most redneck towns in Colorado" according to Roadsnacks. They have their ways of determining the list and that's all good but something that I've come to find while digging into this is...I want to visit most of these places.

So of COURSE I'm about to start planning some road trips this Spring and Summer.

Let's get to know a few of these places now.

10. Fort Lupton

I've seen signs for it and this is the closest one that made the list to us is right here in NoCo in Weld County.

I NEED to head out here for Trapper Days.

9.Pueblo

About 3 hours south on I-25 you'll find this town that is home to the Colorado State Fair and...it was one of the filming locations for one of my favorite movies of all time, "National Lampoon's Vacation"

8. Durango

When I think of Durango, I think of absolute beauty and breathtaking scenery. It's also known to have a LOT of bars, especially for a town of just under 20,000 people.  Durango is also the proud home of MLB Hall of Fame pitcher Steve Carlton.

7. Brush

Brush, Colorado..population as of 2010 was 5,463 was named for Jared L. Brush, who was a Colorado cattle pioneer. Brush never actually LIVED in Brush but he did help settle Greeley. Brush later served as Lieutenant Governor of Colorado.

In case you're wondering where the heck Brush is...

6. Holyoke

It's pronounced "HOLY-OAK" and not "HOLY-OKEE) like I was hoping because I really wanted to find a karaoke bar and say I went to karaoke in HOLY-OKEE. The town was named after a town in Massachusetts and is located WAY up in the Northeast corner of the state.

5. Trinidad

This is either the first or last town you'll come across in Colorado along I-25. It sits near the New Mexico border, Trinidad has been dubbed "Sex Change Capital of the World" because a local doctor is knows internationally for performing sex reassignment surgery.

4. Akron

88% of the land in the county (Washington) is devoted to agriculture. Akron is also the highest town East of Denver along the Burlington Northern Railroad sitting at 4,663 feet above sea level. The locals like to rave about Doc's and the Saddle Saloon if you're looking to "whoop it up" in Akron.

Things to do in Akron...heads up, there aren't many.

Apparently, the winds can get pretty crazy in Akron.

3. Manitou Springs

I LOVE Manitou...haven't been there in a while but it is just a wonderful little spot.  This mountain town really does have it all for whatever you're looking for...from eating and drinking to incredible scenery and hiking. Manitou Springs, which is only about a 15-20 minute drive from Colorado Springs is also the home to the famous Manitou Incline. Take the climb about 2000 vertical feet in less than a mile...if you dare.

2. Delta

This Western Colorado town is located about 40 Southeast of Grand Junction and knows as the "Gateway to the Canyons". After doing a little research on Delta, I've come to find that I want to go here.

1. Rifle

Good ol' Rifle comes in as THE most redneck town in Colorado. The population of Rifle is just under 10,000 with gun stores per capita ranking second and fishing stores coming in at number 11. Two of the biggest factors that go into making your town a "redneck town".  Also...the fact that your newspaper is called "The Cow Pie Courier"...AWESOME.
