On an average day, people between the ages of 18 and 24 send over 110 text messages a day. According to Popular Science, this can cause bouts with anxiety.

Anxiety disorder has become one of the leading forms of mental illness in the country. People who suffer from this illness depend on sending text messages.

Mila Kingsbury who is a psychologist at Carleton University says:

The cause for the anxiety in most people is that in a text message, you are unable to tell what expressions are being used. If a person was to relay the information face to face, you would be able to see the face of the person and read the expression which would help to interpret how it was meant to be relayed. This is most important for what Dr. Kingsbury calls "computer-mediated communication"

The use of emojis help to send a message that can be read with more feeling. This allows users to read more into the actual message which can help with determining the message, leading to less anxiety. The important things to remember while sending a text message to anyone is, use correct punctuation, use emoji's to relay the feeling and watch capitalization of words. Sending a message in all CAPS can really relay the wrong message and intent.
