Taylor Taggart: How the #1 BMX Racer in Colorado Got His Start
Taylor Taggart, a kindergartener at Rim Rock Elementary School, is the number one BMX racer in his age group in all of Colorado. Here's how he started racing and Taylor's Winning BMX playlist too.
Taylor started BMX racing when he was four years old at the BMX Racing League Camp. His mom knew he loved being on his bike so she figured he'd love the camp too.
He started off mountain biking but as soon as he switched to a BMX bike, his mom said those kids just couldn't keep up. Taylor immediately told his mom that he wanted to BMX race forever.
In November 2018, Taylor became a part of the intermediate class after getting 10 first-place wins. He's currently two wins short of being in the expert class, which is the top level of the amateur class.
Taylor currently has one sponsor and is looking for more. According to his mom, the price of national races starts to stack up.
Speaking of stacking up, Taylor has seriously been stacking up some trophies. He's won a lot of races and sometimes win trophies that are almost as big as him. He's also won helmet-shaped metal plates, stamps to buy more gear and plates for his BMX bike.
Taylor (and his mom) are stoked to go to the greatest race on earth next month, the USA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa. They can't wait to see how he ranks up to other five-year-olds across the world.
You can see more pictures we took in the studio on Mix 104.3's Instagram here. Before he left, Taylor made sure to give a shout out to some of his friends at Rim Rock Elementary School. He said 'hey Conner, hey Cooper and hey Preston' and because of Taylor, his buddies started racing too.
He says he likes to listen to Imagine Dragons, ACDC, twenty one pilots, Post Malone and more. Together we made a playlist of some of the songs Taylor likes to listen before he races -- and wins. Below is Taylor's Winning BMX playlist.
