Jake Gyllenhaal will finally get his chance to be in a Spider-Man movie, and he’s going to play a classic villain.

Sony’s upcoming Venom movie went from sounding like a horrible idea to looking like one of the more interesting superhero spinoff projects in the works. While we’re not terribly excited about Ruben Fleischer directing, the cast for this thing is, how do you say, lit. In addition to Tom Hardy, the Spider-Man-adjacent Venom is set to star Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate (Jenny Slate! Seriously!). And according to a new report, Woody Harrelson might be getting in on this thing too.

“My Spider Sense is tingling” is the most classic of Spider-Man catchphrases — but you won’t hear it in the new Spider-Man: Homecoming. The newest version of our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is different than his filmic predecessors in many ways, a big one being his lack of the traditional Spidey Sense, which alerts him to the presence of dangers he can’t immediately see. Homecoming director Jon Watts explained that the decision to leave his sixth sense out of the movie was very much on purpose.

Via a press release at Marvel.com, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced that they’ve found their next Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s Tom Holland, the 19-year-old British actor best known as one of the stars of The Impossible. The studios also announced they’ve chosen a director to make the next Spider-Man movie, and it’s a surprising choice: Jon Watts, the director of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival selection Cop Car.
