Swing by Grand Junction's Sherwood Park today and you'll see crews installing brand-new exercise equipment. Take a quick look at the new gear debuting soon.

At 8:00 a.m. this morning the City of Grand Junction crews were hard at work installing four new pieces of equipment at Sherwood Park. You'll spot the new machines at four different points along the perimeter of the park.

While the machines are already in place, crews are still busy doing concrete pours around the equipment. For the time being, the machines are fenced off and are not yet available for use.

According to gjcitynews.org, Grand Junction Parks & Recreation was awarded an AARP Community Challenge grant. Grand Junction Parks & Rec was one of only 184 entities from across the United States to receive the grant.

Via the official newsletter, gjcitynews.org reported:

With this “quick-action” grant, the Department will install an outdoor 4-piece fitness circuit at Sherwood Park along the walking path. The grant provides $15,000 for equipment and Grand Junction Parks & Recreation will provide the ground prep and installation. The installation for the circuit is expected to be complete in late Fall 2020, and Parks & Recreation will program free clinics to teach the public how to use the circuit and maximize their workouts.

If you have any interest in fitness, I strongly encourage you to check out the new equipment. There is something to be said for this kind of training. With the machines located at equidistant points along the trail following the perimeter of the park, this could serve as an excellent fitness program for anyone.

As stated above, the installation is expected to be complete in "late Fall 2020." Looking at the photos, you can see there is still some work to be done before the project is complete. Once finished, I sincerely hope you'll take full advantage of this awesome addition to our local park.
