Sexually Assaulting a Juvenile is one of the worst crimes I could ever think of. This is horrible and you’re scaring another individual at such a young age, the crime should always be met with prison time. And most times that is the case but according to Vail Daily, 23-year-old Yolaus Nieto Zuniga got the much lighter sentence of 10 years to life on sex offender intensive supervised probation.

The punishment came down after Nieto Auniga had already pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault, which is a class-4 felony charge. He was arrested in August of 2020 for allegedly having sex with the juvenile against her will, as she told him to stop.

What Did the Prosecutors Suggest the Punishment Be in This Case?

Prosecutors argued that six years to life in state prison would be a reasonable sentence. The 17-year-old victim, in this case, did testify during the trial and admitted to feeling powerless after this horrible crime happened to her.

Why Did the Judge Allow Him to be Placed on Intensive Probation?

The public defender, in this case, argued that Nieto Zuniga had already spent 234 days in jail, he took accountability by pleading guilty and has a home and employment upon release. The judge did sentence him to 90 more days in jail, before being placed on Intensive Probation.

The fact that a man can do something this horrible and not face years in prison is just wrong.
