Mountain Lion in the Redlands Euthanized

After recent attacks on local pets and livestock, a mountain lion in the Redlands has been euthanized.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife decided to put down a mountain lion that has attacked multiple family pets in the Redlands including dogs, cats, a chicken and a goat. Residents in the area CPW that they were concerned the mountain lion was too comfortable around people.

Mike Porras of Colorado Parks and Wildlife told KJCT8:

“When a lion, which is naturally reclusive, is not showing fear of people, there’s always that possibility that it could cause some serious injuries or worse and that's a cause of concern for our officers.”

Colorado Parks and Wildlife made several attempts to relocate the cougar, but after a CPW officer was able to come within a few feet of the animal, they decided it was best to put the animal down.

Western Colorado has abundant habitat for mountain lions, which means we need to learn to live among them and keep our family and pets safe.
