Plot Details of Quentin Tarantino’s Charles Manson Movie Revealed
Quentin Tarantino is finally working on his ninth movie, but all we actually know about it is that it’s set in the 1960s and is kinda-sorta about Charles Manson. Now, we know a few more details, thanks to someone who’s read through the script.
Vanity Fair’s source on the inside told the publication about the plot of the movie, which centers around not Manson, but a television actor and his stunt double who are looking for their next project.
Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie, according to a source who read the script, focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his [sic] looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.
Tarantino is reportedly still trying to get Margot Robbie for Manson victim Sharon Tate, and has also been courting Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Cruise, apparently for the roles of the TV actor and his stunt guy. After cutting ties with The Weinstein Company following its former head’s sexual harassment scandal, Tarantino had been shopping around his new movie to all the big Hollywood studios, and last week Sony Pictures was the lucky winner. He’s reportedly negotiated a $100 million budget, first dollar gross, and final cut rights, but it’s not clear yet if Sony has agreed to all those terms. The movie, currently operating under the working title #9, will start shooting in June.
