Pitkin County Mom Arrested For Leaving Baby In Hot Car
A woman was arrested in Aspen for attempted criminally negligent homicide after police found a 1-year-old baby in a hot car, sweating and unresponsive.
The temperature was 116 degrees when the officers arrived, the baby leaning against the door, soaked in sweat.
Charlesie Edwards, 27, the baby's mom, was arrested nearly an hour later drunk and possibly on drugs threatening suicide in an Aspen clothing store. Authorities verified her identity from her purse, which had been left in the car with the baby.
Edwards, who initially believed she had been arrested for DUI, threatened the lives of officers and others before calming down. She was emotional about what had transpired with her child.
The child has been placed with CPS. Edwards also has two other children, an 11-year-old and a six-year-old.
Edwards is free on bond but was already on probation so will continue to be monitored.
