Last August, 23-year old Elijah McClain was killed after an altercation with police in Aurora, Colorado.

The Aurora officers involved in the incident have been cleared of wrongdoing following an allegedly inconclusive autopsy, according to 4 CBS Denver.

A Change.org petition demanding justice for McClain has obtained over 2.2 million signatures, according to WestWorld and 9News.

He was walking home from a convenience store when he was approached by police. The Aurora Police Department said a 911 caller reported a "suspicious person" in a ski mask, referring to McClain.

McClain's sister told Denver7 that McClain was wearing an open-face ski mask because he “had anemia and would sometimes get cold" and that he was unarmed and listening to music.

The APD claims that when officers approached him he "resisted arrest" and in the 15 minutes that followed, McClain was tackled to the ground and put in a carotid hold, he was then injected with ketamine and had a heart attack on the way to the hospital. Ketamine is a known horse tranquilizer.

McClain died a few days later when his family took him off of life support, McClain was declared brain dead and covered in bruises, said his family.

In the bodycam footage, McClain can be heard claiming his innocence before sobbing and vomiting. McClain apologized stating “I wasn’t trying to do that, I just can’t breathe correctly.”

McClain was a vegetarian and known to visit the local animal shelter where he played violin for the cats.
