Palisade + Rifle Football Teams Head to Quarterfinals
Palisade and Rifle head to the quarterfinals of the CHSAA 3A football playoffs this weekend.
Palisade defeated Discovery Canyon 27-7 in the opening round of the playoffs, scoring 13 points in the 4th quarter to pull away in a game that was closer than the final score indicates. The score was 7-7 at halftime.
Coach Joe Ramunno's crew improves to 9-2 on the season and will go on the road this Saturday for a quarterfinal matchup with the Roosevelt Roughriders, also 9-2. Roosevelt defeated Thomas Jefferson 44-0 in the first round.
Palisade and Roosevelt have one common opponent this season, Holy Family. The Bulldogs lost 56-20 while the Roughriders won 25-6.
Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday at Johnstown, southeast of Loveland.
In the other western Colorado matchup, it's Bears versus Bears.The Rifle Bears advanced to the quarterfinals with a 33-10 win over Evergreen to earn their 10th win of the season. The Bears will host the Palmer Ridge Ridge Bears Saturday at 1:00 pm.
Palmer Ridge is 11-0 on the season and averaging 46 points per game, while Rifle has been averaging nearly 40 points per game. The winner of this matchup takes on the Palisade/Roosevelt winner in the semi-finals.
