New Photos Offer a First Look at Tim Burton’s ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children just sounds like a Tim Burton movie, doesn’t it? Well, it is.

The latest Burton movie, based on the novel by Ransom Riggs, stars Hugo’s Asa Butterfield as (per a plot synopsis) “a 16-year-old boy named Jacob Portman” who “accidentally works himself onto a mysterious island where he helps a group of peculiar orphaned children at Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, protecting them and leading them away from horrible creatures who are out to destroy them.”

Entertainment Weekly and Empire just premiered two batches of photographs for your perusal. You’ll see the full assemblage of peculiar children, plus glimpses of Eva Green as the title character, who Burton described to Empire as a “weird Mary Poppins like character—a strong and mysterious person” and to EW as “a scary Mary Poppins, and she can turn into a bird.” So I guess she’s like Mary Poppins then!

There’s also Judi Dench as Miss Avocet, who’s “the head of another peculiar school” with “a bit more nervous, flighty energy than Miss Peregrine.”

Of the motley cast of characters, Burton told EW “Weird kids: It’s something that I’ve dealt with and been interested in for a while.” Really?!? You don’t say Tim Burton! Because I didn’t get that from literally every single movie you’ve made for the last 30 years!

In addition to Butterfield, Green, and Dench, the cast also includes Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, and Samuel L. Jackson. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children opens in theaters on September 30, 2016.
