Tire Rack Street Survival teen driver safety is coming back to Western Colorado.

Now in its 16th year, the teen driving school is being held October 27 at the Eagle County Regional Airport with the aim of saving lives and keeping teens safe in Colorado. The program has trained more than 25,000 new drivers.

More than 5,000 teens are involved in a fatal crash each year and another 196,000 are injured. Car accidents are the number one killer of American teens age 15-20.

The Tire Rack Street Survival course takes standard driver's education to the next level by providing hands-on experience in real-world driving situations. Students learn hands-on, how to deal with normal driving hazards, obstacles, and challenges. Of course, they do it in a controlled environment on an advanced driving course.

Another cool feature of the training is that students are taught in their own cars which just makes the learning process more relevant to their daily driving experience.

The cost of the course is $95 and is open to fully licensed drivers ages 16-21. Some insurance companies offer premium discounts to graduates of the program. The Gypsum event is one of two driving schools being offered in Colorado by Tire Rack Street Survival.
