Loveland is Home to the Most Haunted Hike in Colorado
Loveland is home to Carter Lake; a popular three-mile-long, one-mile-wide lake believed to be occupied by more than just outdoor enthusiasts.
The Carter Lake hike has landed the number one spot on 303 Magazine's 13 Creepiest Places to Hike or Camp in Colorado.
Most of the time, Carter Lake is packed with hikers, fishing enthusiasts, boaters, and rock climbers. However, legend has it that a man named Bennet got into a land dispute in the area about 100 years ago. During the dispute, he was shot and killed on a roadside near the lake. Residents swear that after that fateful day, he never left.
According to many Carter Lake visitors and residents, Bennet is still seen around the lake, wearing old-fashioned clothes that were common for his era. Although, like a mirage, when you approach him, he disappears.
