Be sure and keep an eye on the sky this Wednesday.

We are celebrating Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11 and Grand Junction is getting a special treat. Four F-16 jets are scheduled to make a mid-day appearance in the western Colorado sky.

In honor of Veterans Day, the jets from the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard will be flying across Colorado. The 140th Wing is headquartered at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.  The wing is comprised of 1600 personnel and they fly F-16C+ Fighting Falcon aircraft.

The jets are scheduled to fly over Durango at 11:48am and then coming in from the west should be over Grand Junction at about 12:05pm. From there, the jets will do a flyover at Rifle at 12:15pm.

Due to the rise of COVID cases in Mesa County, the public Veterans Day event at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery has been canceled.  That means some folks will be finding another way to honor all of our U.S. military veterans.

We want all of our military personnel both past and present to know we are grateful for their service and sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy. When you see a veteran, please show them respect and gratitude, and when you see or hear Wednesday's flyover, take a moment to reflect on what our veterans mean to the United States of America - our past and our future.
