On a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, the home at 714 Curecanti Circle would run you $12,725 a month to own.

In contrast, on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage the home at 585 25 1/2 Road would cost you $656 a month to own (not including lot fees).

Put simply, you could own the second house for roughly the same amount as it would cost to make three months of house payments on the other.

Not Taking Sides

I'm not in the market for another house right now. I'm already punching myself in the head for having purchased a number of income properties years ago. Once it becomes clear what kind of mental illness motivated me to become a landlord I'll begin the search for a cure.

I'm in no way taking sides in this comparison. I've been to the more expensive home before. It is amazing. I have tremendous respect for the craftsmen behind this magnificent home. At the same time, I'm a huge fan of designers who can make the most out of finite space as with the least expensive home. In my opinion, they're both excellent prospects.

More than anything, it's my intention to simply present the options available to the local home buyer.

According to westernmininghistory.com, Turret, Colorado was a small mining town near Salida that was settled in 1897. In addition to the post office, the town featured a salon, a butcher shop, a hotel, several stores, and even a newspaper.

On the south side of his property is a small piece of national forest, and the front door is less than a mile from hundreds of acres of national forest land. It's one of the most beautiful areas in Colorado. When you need to make a trip to the big city, you're just 30 miles from downtown Salida.
