Kate Hudson often shows off her hippie chic and boho chic style on the street. She is pretty much one of the first celebs to rock Uggs -- so we can thank her for that awful trend -- and things like oversized, Fair Isle sweaters.

But it's her red carpet style that is oh-so-enviable. She makes smart, edgy choices with some of her gowns. Every now and then, though, we wonder WTF went through her pretty head.

It's often the geometric shaping that throws us off ... and we can't decide if we love or hate her boldness. But when she's casual and cool, it's like her smile -- effortless. Especially when she opts for chunky knits with loose waves, like so.

Both times she's been pregnant, she hasn't sacrificed style for comfort. In this lemon yellow chiffon Versace gown, she was every inch the goddess. We love the super straight thick hair, too. She's exudes that healthy, mom-to-be glow.

What's Right:

Hudson has a rad body, enviable height and an innate sense of what looks good on her, like this black one-shouldered Stella McCartney. We love the sexy fishnet cutout on the sides. It's all in the details and that subtle, slinky extra "sumpin sumpin" makes this gown one of the hottest she's ever donned.

K. Hud also isn't afraid to experiment with bold colors, like this sparkly floor-sweeping Jenny Packham column gown in royal purple. The voluminous bun is another larger-than-life choice, and a good one at that.

Dressed down in ankle-zip skinny jeans and a red tank with animal-skin heels and aviators, Hudson stuns. She got back into fighting shape after the birth of her second son Bing and is the epitome of Cali, rocker cool. Which isn't surprising -- she does have a thing for musicians. She was once married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and she's currently engaged to Muse's Matthew Bellamy.

But when the Hud was pregnant, she still had enviable style, as we mentioned earlier. This silky black Elizabeth and James frock was loose and unfussy -- and stylish, thanks the asymmetry in the hem. She was bursting with child, so comfort was critical, but she didn't look sloppy. The nude heels contrast beautifully and, well, ups to her for rocking heels while being what looks like minutes from a birthing table.

This crimson Prabal Gurung gown clings to her like second skin. The pointy sleeves are yet another detail that surprises, and the gold claw necklace dipping down into her cleavage is seriously sexafied. As you'll see in a minute, Hudson favors geometry in her gowns and it's often too distracting. Not so on this scarlet stunner.

Back that thang up! In a low-dipping, white Pucci gown,  Hudson covers up everywhere else in favor of showing off her smooth and creamy back. Look at where that road ends -- right at her booty. She's got some junk in that trunk.

What's Wrong:

At the 2001 Oscars, the old lady '80s corkscrew hair, the unflattering fringed bodice and the fuddy duddy color of this Stella McCartney dress landed K. Hud atop most worst-dressed lists that year. We can't say we blame 'em.

This Louis Vuitton cape that she wore to a movie premiere recently overwhelms her frame with its volume. Did she grab an old afghan to wear as a topper? That mature, blown back hair is too stiff, too. Great gams, though.

Hudson should earn an Emmy nomination for her scene-chewing work in 'Glee,' but at the premiere? The white suit with black piping by Alexander McQueen, a designer she favors, was too ill-fitting. Not even the pumps by the flawless Brian Atwood could save this.

In this structured white Marchesa, which she wore to the 2012 Golden Globes, Hudson confounds. It stands out, but it's too geometric and there is too much going on. We don't know what to look at first -- and as a result, we don't want to look at all. Did she stuff her bra with toilet paper that's popping out of the top? And why carry around all that extra fabric?

How to Fix It:

Kate Hudson is best served by showing some skin in sexy cuts and by daring to bare, here and there. (Sorry we just got all Dr. Seuss on you for a sec.) She has the bod. Why not flaunt it?

Beautiful gowns, like this Atelier Versace, are her forte. The cross-body strap keeps it fun and appealing.

Kate's sunkissed skin always pops in white and we love the slit in this McQueen dress, but the stiff shoulders keep this off our "love love love" list. We realize Hudson likes geometric shapes and statement shoulders, but they stiffen and age her. Ease up on those.

This has a similar sexy slit, but shows more skin and is more youthful. Yes, she's a mom in her 30s but she doesn't need to rock such severe pointy shoulders. We prefer when she mixes an element of Cali surfer-girl cool into a glam ensemble. She's great at that.
