If you're familiar with some of the most haunted places in the nation, you've likely heard tales from Waverly Hills Sanitorium, an abandoned hospital that was once used to treat tuberculosis patients, many of whom passed away on-site.
With that in mind, it may come as a surprise to learn that Colorado was home to similar places, one of which is a Victorian castle that is open to the public today and serves as the setting for numerous unsettling ghost stories.
Colorado's Allegedly Haunted Miramont Castle
The Miramont Castle in Manitou Springs, Colorado, was built in 1895 and served as the living quarters for a priest and his widowed mother until it was converted into a sanitarium used to treat tuberculosis patients.

Over the years, numerous otherworldly encounters have reportedly taken place at the castle, including accounts of wooden floors creaking, voices chattering, and doors slamming when no one besides the person who reported the happenings was present.
There have also been stories from Miramont Castle of items being thrown across the room and full conversations that would abruptly stop when the living occupant would confront them.
It has been reported that, for the most part, the spirits that allegedly haunt Miramont Castle are friendly, though accounts of one ghost that haunts the chapel have been described as less than nice.
