If you’re a fan of the University of Colorado-Boulder’s football team, you’re probably aware of the legendary 101-year-old superfan, Peggy Coppom, as well.
Colorado’s Peggy Coppom’s Early Years
Peggy Coppom and her late identical twin, Betty Hoover, were born Peggy and Betty Fitzgerald on November 19, 1924, in Walsenburg, Colorado. The twins, who spent most of their childhood in the tiny town of Haxtun, Colorado, were inseparable and even dressed in identical outfits every time they went out in public.

Peggy and Betty both married pilots, John Coppom and Harry Hoover, respectively.

The sisters continued the tradition of wearing identical clothing into adulthood, but it was their matching yellow CU Buffaloes sweaters, polo shirts, and jackets that would make them famous.
The pair became season ticket holders in 1958 and were quickly recognized at nearly every home game, whether it be football, basketball, or any variety of athletic event, including homecoming parades.
The sisters were beloved by players, coaches, students, staff, and fans for nearly eight decades until Betty’s unfortunate passing in 2020 from pancreatic cancer.
