This reputation is largely thanks to an experience that Stephen King had while visiting the hotel with his wife, which was so disturbing that it inspired the author to write one of his most terrifying stories to date, The Shining.
However, Stephen King wasn't the only celebrity to have a scary experience in the Stanley Hotel, as it has also been revealed that one of the most famous comedic actors of all time had a similar experience.
What Happened When Jim Carrey Visited Colorado's Stanley Hotel?
Jim Carrey is one of the most celebrated comedic actors of all time and reportedly once had a frightening experience in the same hotel that inspired The Shining.

The actor allegedly requested to stay in the notorious room that freaked out the master of horror while filming scenes for 1994's Dumb and Dumber, and while he was given the room that he requested, he reportedly didn't stay in it for too long.
While The Stanley Hotel's most haunted rooms are said to be rooms 401 and 428, Carrey was given room 217, the same room in which King's famous nightmares took place.
Little more is known regarding Carrey's short stay in the room, except for the fact that upon checking in, it wasn't long before the actor returned to the front desk to take back his request and ask for a different room.
