How The Broadmoor Seven Falls Got Its Name

Seven Falls is located within Colorado's South Cheyenne Canyon, near Colorado Springs. The canyon has often been described as Colorado's 'grandest mile of scenery.' The Broadmoor Seven Falls is named for the seven separate drops (Bridal Veil, Feather, Hill, Hull, Ramona, Shorty, and Weimer) that make up the falls.

3 of the waterfalls at Seven Falls take their names from previous owners of the land in Cheyenne Canyon: Hull, Weimer, and Hill. Ramona Falls is named for the Helen Hunt Jackson novel, and Bridal Veil and Feather, and Shorty are named for the way they look.

Climb The Steps To Eagle's Landing

James Hull became the owner of the Seven Falls in 1882. In 1883, he had his sons begin work on a wooden staircase that would take visitors up to an overlook at the top of the falls. He charged ten cents. By 1885, he owned over 400 acres in Cheyenne Canyon. According to SevenFalls.com, his sons swamped out their wooden staircase for 224 iron steps in 1891. Today, it costs around $25 to visit.

Hiking Trails at the Broadmoor Seven Falls

Once you climb the stairs to the 'Eagle's Landing', you can access a couple of scenic hikes well worth your time. You can explore the heart of Cheyenne Canyon in just a few hours by exploring the two trails that begin at the landing.

Midnight Falls (½‑hour round‑trip, approx. 0.7 mi): Hike through the forest to Midnight Falls, a romantic hotspot for more than a century.

Inspiration Point (1‑hour round‑trip, 1 mi): Walk a portion of James Hull's original trail opened in 1883. Guests can climb the switchback trail to the overlook and the Helen Hunt Jackson memorial.
