Western Colorado is known as an excellent climate for growing apples thanks to the high altitude, warm days, and cool nights. These conditions allow for a variety of apples to flourish here including Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Jonathan, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith.

Colorado Orchards Offer Cafes and Camping

Many of the orchards famous for apples are in the North Fork Valley on the opposite side of the Grand Mesa from Grand Junction. You can be there in about 90 minutes, and you'll discover cafes, wineries, and farmer's markets all worth a visit before or after you pick your apples.
