With things getting more and more expensive, more Coloradans are taking on side hustles to help make ends meet. One popular side hustle that you'll find in Colorado has announced a change.

Though it's a temporary one, I could see where it becomes an option for those who choose it, as it lessens the amount of time required to earn your cash. If you can make the same amount, without it taking up more of your day, why not?

Plus, if people find out about the change they may be more inclined to take this side hustle on; a side hustle that helps people.

Plasma Donation Center Announces Change in Process in Colorado

I have a friend who worked at plasma donation center in Fort Collins for many years, and eventually I became a donor. Plasma is widely needed for many health conditions including cancer, burns, blood clotting, and chronic health conditions. It honestly does save lives, and a lot of Coloradans enjoy the side hustle.

When you donate plasma, you get paid, not only for your plasma, but for your time. It can take upwards of an hour and half after you enter the building before leaving again. This change is lessening the time it takes.

Saline Shortage Brings Change to Donating Plasma

Part of the process of donation plasma is that you as the donor receive saline infusion at the end of the donation to replace fluid given up in the process. Without, you could become dizzy and pass out.

With hurricane Helene in September of 2024, a major saline (and other IV solutions) manufacturer was heavily damaged, reducing the nation's supply of saline. With the shortage, I was notified by BioLife that they're making a change while those supplies are low.

Instead of receiving a saline infusion at the end of your donation you will be asked to stay for 15 minutes for an electrolyte drink to ensure your continued safety and comfort.

You will also receive an electrolyte beverage and snack prior to your donation. This is an FDA approved process.

BioLife goes on to comment on how this will make your donation faster, as it does take some time to receive that bag of saline.

Perhaps they will make this a permanent option for when you donate; I know that I'd take the drink/snack option over spending more time in the chair.
