New Study Says Colorado Is Not A Top 10 Sports State

A new nationwide study looking for the best sports cities and states in the country recently claimed that Colorado, with three major sports championships won in the last 2 years, is not ranked in the Top 10. Seriously?!

Colorado Is Not A Good Sports State?

I can admit that when I was growing up, Colorado wasn't really known for its professional sports. We had the Broncos, and the Nuggets, but as far as pro teams went, that was it. In 1993, we got our first Major League Baseball team, the Colorado Rockies, and then came along the Colorado Avalanche in 1996. That year is when Colorado officially raised its hand as a sports state. Why 1996?

Why Is Colorado A Good Sports State?

By 1996, we finally had an NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL team, and our brand new NHL team won the Stanley Cup in their very first season. The very first major championship was won in Colorado. What happened the following year? The Denver Broncos won our very first Super Bowl and then repeated to go back to back in 1998. Three championships in 3 years? How do you top that? How about winning three championships in 2 years?

In 2022, the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup, the Colorado Mammoth won the NLL Cup, and then just this year, in 2023, the Denver Nuggets won their first NBA Championship, with a pretty decent chance to repeat this year. Take those championship milestones, and toss in the other championships from the Colorado Eagles, Colorado Rapids, DU, etc. and tell me how exactly Colorado isn't just a Top 10 sports state, but a Top 3 sports state.

I'm sorry, the Denver Nuggets, the current NBA Champions, ranked #26? That's crazy to me. They don't even have them ranked in the Top 10 for basketball fans. Every game is sold out, merch is all over the place, plus the absolute best player in the entire league is Jokic. Maybe they know something we don't know? With the way our teams ranked, Denver was our highest sports city ranked at #12. The Top 3 cities were Pittsburgh at 3 (Really? What have they done anytime recently?), Boston at number 2, and Los Angeles at number 1. Flip Pittsburgh and Denver and then we'd be closer to how it actually is.

The Rockies are hopeless but the Broncos won a Super Bowl 7 years ago, and the Avs, Nuggets, and Mammoth have all won their titles in the last 2 years. The last time Pitts won a championship was in 2009. I'm just saying... The full map is below.
