Colorado’s Interstates Make List of the 100 Most-Loathed in U.S.

If there's one thing everyone in Colorado can agree on, it's that driving on Colorado roads can sometimes be excruciating. The traffic, the construction, the overall "what is going on?" of it all.

3,000 drivers across America were surveyed about what roads across the nation they "loathe" the most. Two of Colorado's roads made the list: I-25 and I-70. Which one do you think faired better?

North-south and east-west, our two interstates help to get Coloradans where we need to be; there's no question that we need them. How often though, do we get in the car and say, "I'm not taking the interstate if I don't have to."

AMERICA LOATHES COLORADO'S INTERSTATES

The folks at Volvo asked 3,000 drivers which roads in America they loathe the most. They published the top 100 answers to that question and Colorado's I-25 and I-70 were noted; one is much more loathed than the other.

WHAT IS THE MOST LOATHED ROAD IN AMERICA?

At #1 on the list is U.S. Highway 101 in California:

In densely populated areas such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, the US-101 is notorious for continuous congestion, evidenced by an abundance of brake lights and the sound of horns.

WHAT IS THE LEAST-LOATHED ROAD IN AMERICA?

At #100 is Interstate 94 in Minnesota:

Particularly in the Twin Cities area, this interstate often experiences congestion, especially during rush hours.

WHICH IS THE LEAST-LOATHED ROAD IN COLORADO?

According to the Volvo survey, It's I-25 at #39.

Especially around Denver, this interstate often sees heavy traffic, congestion, and roadwork-related delays.

 

When I-94 in Minnesota is more liked than I-25, that matters. But #39 is a lot better than where I-70 shows up on the list.

HOW LOATHED IS COLORADO'S I-70?

Volvo's survey brought out the frustration in people over that dreaded I-70: but then, we've all witnessed how, even though it's a man-made marvel, using I-70 can be a pain.

I-70 IN COLORADO IS AMERICA'S #5 MOST-LOATHED ROAD

Soaring right up into the middle of the top 10, at #5, is "good ol' I-70," which takes us right through the Rocky Mountains:

The Eisenhower Tunnel, a crucial point along the route, further complicates matters; at an elevation of 11,158 feet, it's one of the highest vehicular tunnels in the world and often requires closures during heavy snowstorms for safety. Roadway improvements and seasonal restrictions for non-equipped vehicles attempt to mitigate these issues, but they introduce their own delays, with travelers often facing mandatory detours or chain-ups during winter storms.
