Northern Colorado Rain Chances Rise as Monsoon Moisture Arrives

It's been a hot, dry summer in Northern Colorado. Soon, we may be getting that much-needed moisture, not only in Northern Colorado, but pretty much the entire state.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, only portions of four Colorado counties on the eastern plains are experiencing zero drought conditions. The rest of Colorado, that is a different story. Most of the counties in the Rocky Mountains are under exceptional drought conditions, and much of Larimer and Weld counties are experiencing extreme drought.

Monsoon season is upon us, and it looks like we will be getting some of that much-needed moisture later this week. While rain is not a guarantee from Mother Nature, the chances seem to be good for much of the state.

Monsoon Moisture Could Bring Rain to Colorado

According to CBS Colorado Meteorologist Joe Ruch, in the early to mid part of the week, rain favors the high country of Colorado. Some areas could see more than an inch of rain by Friday evening.

The monsoon moisture then moves east onto the Front Range, and statewide starting on Wednesday. By Friday, the hot temperatures will subside, and cities such as Denver, Fort Collins, and Greeley are forecasted to get at least an inch of rain.

• Greeley - 1.13 inches
• Boulder - 1.27 inches
• Estes Park - 2.26 inches

The National Weather Service is calling for locally heavy rains possible Thursday and Friday throughout much of Colorado, with a slight risk of excessive rain and flash flooding on Thursday afternoon.

Burn scars are the most at risk for flash flooding, and some urban corridors could also experience flash flooding as a result of the incoming rain.

Hopefully, we get some decent moisture throughout Colorado, because we certainly need it.
