Farmers’ Almanac Releases 2026-27 Colorado Winter Outlook

2026 you have been an odd year, to put it nicely. With pretty much no snow or rain for most of the year, it's making me ready for winter in a way I haven't felt in a really long time.

All this talk lately of a super El Niño has a lot of people hoping that we are going to see snow like we haven't seen in quite some time in Colorado. The possibility of a more active-than-usual El Niño season could mean the odds are in our favor for above-average snowfall this upcoming winter. Which would be amazing for the current drought conditions in Colorado.

Farmers’ Almanac Releases 2026-27 Winter Forecast

Ahead of every season, the Farmers' Almanac releases its forecast predictions. This winter could be a coin toss on whether we get a lot of snow or a repeat of the previous winter.

According to the extended Winter 2026/2027 Weather Forecast, the colder months are shaping up to be sharply contrasted. Some areas of the country could get numerous winter storms, heavy, wet snow, and other areas could see milder weather, with quick and short cold snaps.

Colorado falls into the North Central forecasting area for the Farmers' Almanac, including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. That's a lot of ground to cover for a generalized winter forecast, with vast differences in climate.

The Farmers' Almanac is calling for a cold winter for our region, snowy at times, and breezy, too. The forecast says that there may be a possibility of sudden cold snaps, with brief snowy periods being likely.

What the Forecast Says for Colorado’s Region

The Farmers' Almanac also says that the middle of the country, in the general area we live in, could see frequent swings of thawing and freezing, making for rapidly changing conditions on the roads and in the fields.

I am not sure about you, but I could certainly go for another one of those bomb cyclone storms. One big snowstorm is something that I have been dreaming about for quite some time now.
