Over the last 10 years, certain challenges have gone viral on TikTok due to their popularity and ease with which users can recreate their own version of that particular trend. Many of these viral video challenges are fun or benefit a greater cause, such as the Tootsie Slide Challenge, Ice Bucket Challenge, or Plank Challenge, but others can be dangerous, and lead to negative or unwanted outcomes.

For example, something called the "door-kicking challenge" has recently taken off on TikTok, and is now making the rounds in Colorado.

The "door-kicking challenge" involves individuals—often teenagers— loudly kicking or banging on doors/garages, usually late at night, while recording the act for TikTok or other social media apps. Pranksters then run away while filming reactions.

While it seems like a harmless prank, the trend raises serious concerns about safety, liability, and home security.

As you can imagine, being woken up to someone pounding on the door in the middle of the night would be extremely jarring for most people. More critically, it can be mistaken as an attempted break-in, potentially prompting dangerous or defensive responses from homeowners.

It is important that individuals partaking in this risky trend understand that even if no burglary or theft occurs, this behavior is illegal and considered vandalism and can lead to criminal charges. Some of these incidents are getting picked up by Ring or security cameras, and are then being turned over to police. This trend is not only dangerous to those performing the challenge, it is also disturbing for residents.

Reports of teens partaking in this dangerous challenge have been documented in other states across the country, including Texas, California and Pennsylvania.
