When it comes to free time, I am very busy. I have a strange knack for somehow finding new hobbies every month. In one form or another, I have a hobby for nearly every aspect of my life. Woodworking, 3D printing, and cooking are my big three that I love the most.

Hobbies Can Get Expensive Quickly

As with any hobby, these three can get pretty pricey for me, depending on what I am doing. Most hobbies can be inexpensive; it just really depends on how far down the rabbit hole you are willing to go.

When it comes to spending on hobbies, Colorado ranks ninth, with the most per month at an average of $106.07. To me, that kind of seems low, especially if you are into Colorado lifestyle hobbies such as skiing, mountain biking, fishing, or camping.

Have you seen the price of a quality tent lately? They are not cheap. Thankfully, when it comes to some of these hobbies, you are spending money on certain items once, and you can have them for life.

Which States Spend the Most and Least

Florida ranked as the state that spends the most every month on hobbies, with $131.33 on average. The state of Michigan spends the least, with an average of $68.34 monthly.

According to CGTrader, these are the top five most popular hobbies in the United States:

  • Going to concerts, shows, and events - 34.2 percent
  • Puzzles (jigsaw, crossword, etc.) - 38.8 percent
  • Video games - 47.6 percent
  • Cooking or baking - 50.5 percent
  • Reading or book clubs - 51.9 percent
