The incident took place on Thursday, March 19, when the driver was caught going 73 miles per hour over the speed limit in a 55 mph zone on Highway 34, near 65th Avenue. To top off the excessive speeding violation, the driver was also operating a vehicle with expired registration.
What Charges Could the Driver Face?
While the Greeley Police Department did not say what the potential charges would be for the driver, KDVR states the Colorado Revised Statutes for driving over 25 miles per hour over the speed limit is a class 2 misdemeanor, which could mean a minimum sentence of three months in jail, a $250, or both. The maximum sentence could be 18 months in jail, a $5,000 fine, or both.
