An intoxicated and armed man was arrested in Greeley last week for attempted homicide after showing up to a State Farm office and threatening to kill an insurance agent.

At approximately 11:53 a.m. on Friday, July 30, the Greeley Tribune says multiple people reported to police that 38-year-old Jacob Maltby was on his way to a State Farm office in 1900 block of 59th Avenue in Greeley; the suspect had reportedly been threatening to kill an insurance agent, and then commit suicide.

Officers with the Greeley Police Department were warned that Maltby was armed and intoxicated, as per reports from the Greeley Tribune.

Once officers arrived on the scene at the Greeley State Farm office, they found 38-year-old Maltby in his parked vehicle outside the front of the insurance office, according to police.

Responding officers were able to locate multiple firearms inside Maltby’s car.

According to the Greeley Tribune, police reports indicate that this instance marked the second day in a row that Maltby had gone to the State Farm office and became violent - the first time had not been reported to the police, and Maltby had threatened a different person at the office during the first instance.

Officers were able to arrest Maltby and take him into custody, according to Greeley police.

The suspect was then booked into the Weld County Jail.

38-year-old Jacob Maltby faces several charges including attempted second-degree homicide, prohibited use of a weapon, criminal mischief, and driving under the influence.

The Greeley Tribune said the Weld District Attorney’s Office has until 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10 to file charges against Maltby,
