I did not grow up on a farm, but I have many unforgettable childhood memories of good times on the family farm in Eastern Colorado.

My grandparents were married in 1917 and moved to this plot of land to farm near Cope shortly afterward. If you have never been to Cope, I'm sure you are not alone. It's located near the middle of nowhere right between the boondocks and Timbuktu. In other words, it's somewhere between Akron and Burlington in east-central Colorado.

This is where grandma and grandpa raised cattle and chickens along with 10 kids- including 6 boys and 4 girls. I guess I should say 10  kids of their own. There was the issue of 22 grandchildren over the years who visited the farm and wreaked havoc on what we considered to be the greatest playground in the world.

There was so much exploring to do and adventures to be had for two mischievous little boys - my brother and I. With no video games, computers, or cell phones, and only one TV station, our imaginations ran wild with fun and games - and sometimes trouble. Snakes, rabbits, lizards, guns, hikes, board games, and grandma's fried chicken and homemade cinnamon rolls made every visit to the farm a special time to remember.

Recently, we journeyed back to the old farm place to reminisce and to once again do a little exploring. It was 40 years ago this month that grandma went to heaven, and the farm has changed a lot since then. Grandpa left us 7 years later. But, the memories of so many good times will stay with us for the rest of our lives until we see them again.
