Kyle Schwartz, a teacher in Denver, asked her third-grade students to share something they’d like her to know, and what she received is eye opening.

Kyle Schwartz teaches third grade at Doull Elementary in Denver where many of her students come from underprivileged homes. She states 92% of her students qualify for free and reduced lunch. She also feels that she struggles to understand her students lives and felt there were things she didn’t know about her students.

That’s when she devised a really awesome assignment for the class called the “I Wish My Teacher Knew" project asking the students to share something personal and the responses were shocking.

She then shared some of the notes on Twitter using the hashtag #iwishmyteacherknew, and asked other teachers to try the same lesson. This is when tweets and photos began pouring in from around the world.

Take a look at some of the eye-opening notes:

Hats off to Kyle Schwartz! It is teachers like her, who really make a difference, and more importantly, a HUGE difference in the lives of our kids.
