Unfortunately, the Blue Ribbon campaign began as the result of a horrific tragedy. Since 1989, people have been encouraged to wear a blue ribbon as a symbol of their intentions to do their best when it comes to children and family. While Child Abuse Awareness month is technically in April, recent occurrences of child abuse in Western Colorado have ignited the communities to show its "blue."

The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989 when a Virginia grandmother began the movement as a tribute to her 3-year-old grandson who died at the hands of his mother's boyfriend.

Recently, Western Colorado has been shocked by several extreme cases of child abuse. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Mesa County encourages you to "Light the Town Blue" this month to raise awareness. Basically, you are encouraged to put a blue light on your porch.

99.9 KEKB will gladly provide you with a blue light for your home. We have a small supply of blue light bulbs available on a first come, first serve basis.

Grand Junction area hardware stores have blue lights available in both the "spiral" bulb and the 100-watt outdoor bulb, with prices ranging from $4.97 to $7.97 respectively.
