Now that the holidays are gone I have to search a little harder for a reason to eat sweets, and the fact that The Avalon Theatre in downtown Grand Junction is turning 98 years old, let's bust out the birthday cake!

In all seriousness, it is very impressive and so cool to have such a historic and fun theatre that gets used on a regular basis (when we aren't dealing with a pandemic).

It was Friday, January 5, 1923, that the doors opened to the Avalon with a performance by the internationally known soprano Lucy Gates.

Since Grand Junction is about halfway between Denver and Salt Lake City in the days of trains, we had plenty of performances traveling through town. You can learn more about the history of the Avalon by clicking here to visit their website.

We should all feel lucky to have such a great music venue that is in such fantastic shape after 98 years of shows, performances, and concerts rocking the downtown Grand Junction building.

One thing that I have always been impressed with when it comes to The Avalon is their staff. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating when seeing a show or a concert. Which is another reason why so many people in Western Colorado love to visit The Avalon.

It's got such a rich history, and we are fortunate to celebrate its 98th birthday. So, what was your favorite show or concert ever that you witnessed at The Avalon?
