This will be the first of its kind in Grand Junction but it sounds like there will soon be an African history museum. According to Western Slope Now, Jay Freeman, the owner and organizer of RAW a community activist group for people of color and LGBTQ+ was the creator of the project and wants to make a real difference in the community.

The museum is expected to include the history of indigenous people featuring interactive technology, workshops, and hands-on experiences. Freeman went on to say, "The education will be more readily available for those actually interested in and really want to gain an understanding and respect for the culture."

The Executive Director at the Museums of Western Colorado, Kaia Michaelis, has expressed interest in working with the new museum to do a better job of sharing our history. According to both Michaelis and Freeman education is very important especially when it comes to educating children about these topics.

The current business that Freeman owns is Tree House clothing located at 304 North Ave. #2B in Grand Junction and his current location is where he wants to put this new museum. He said the idea to create the new project came to him over the weekend and he wants to make it happen.

As the change takes place in the Grand Junction business, we will keep you updated. Are you excited for the new museum coming to our downtown area? Is this something you will be visiting when you have friends or family come into town to visit?
