An owner of a company in Georgia has required all employees to carry a gun. The company deals in insurance, and the owner claims that it is for employee safety.

WSB-TV in Atlanta, Ga. did a story on Lance Toland Associates, a company that mandates employees to carry a firearm at work. Each employee must obtain a concealed carry permit, receive training and become an expert in carrying and using a gun. Once they complete the necessary training and supply their carry permit to owner Lance Toland, the employee receives a handgun called The Judge.

“It's a 5 shot .410, just like a shotgun and you call it hand cannon.”

I'm not sure where I stand on this issue. If it came to having to carry a gun or have one in my desk, I think it would make me extremely nervous. Not only do you have to be careful, but need a heightened sense of awareness of all those around you who also have guns. There would also have to be a trust of those you work with.

There are people I know who carry a gun personal protection, have one in the vehicle that they drive, or in their home. Those are choices they made, and that to me is perfectly alright.

The idea of a company or boss forcing an employee to comply is a different story.

Put yourself in this position as an employee. Would this change your mind about the company? Could you trust your fellow employees to do the right thing?
