Here's a new spin on the current trend of leaving whopping gratuities at restaurants. A Facebook group called “The Denver $100 Dinner Club” dropped $3,000 in tips in just three hours at this Colorado restaurant.

We've had tons of fun telling you about the generous people who've made a habit of leaving extraordinary, even unbelievable tips for employees at Colorado food venues. Now, a new group utilizing Facebook has appeared on the scene.

How was this initiated?

According to thedenverchannel.com, The Denver $100 Dinner Club reached out to Black+Haus Tavern in Parker after hearing good things about the venue. A member of the Denver $100 Dinner Club, Rick Moses, contacted the restaurant's owner, Jenn Black, to make arrangements for their visit. Black did not share the news with her employees, stating "I wanted it to be a surprise."

Who exactly is "The Denver $100 Dinner Club" and what is their agenda?

This version of the club was inspired by a Facebook group out of Utah. Moses, along with a friend, began promoting their club back in February.

The objective of the club is to:

  • Gather 100 people
  • Go out to dinner
  • Each person leave a $100 tip for the restaurant staff

In other words, as their Facebook page states, "Supporting locally owned restaurants and businesses in Denver metro with $100 tips adding up to $10,000 per event."

How is this executed?

This generous effort is carried out a little differently than what we've seen in the past. Typically, people have gone to restaurants, and upon leaving, tip the staff with a generous amount of money.

In this case, reservations are made at a restaurant in advance. Due to the possibility of limited seating, reservations are made in waves. In this case, the campaign did not get the full 100 people, and as a result, the goal of a $10,000 tip was not achieved.

There's always next month.

The Denver $100 Dinner Club is currently taking recommendations for their next restaurant trip. They plan to visit another restaurant in April, and hopefully, with the full complement of 100 people.

Let's get a group like this in Grand Junction.

Wouldn't it be fun to put together a group such as this in Grand Junction? I'm not known as a generous tipper, but I do believe I could come up with $100 per month. Who's interested?
