Extra Security Being Added to District 51 School Campuses
As School District 51 students head back to class on Tuesday (February 20) following the President's Day holiday, they may notice additional security personnel, particularly at high schools in the district.
School District 51 is adding additional security on the campuses of Grand Junction, Central, Palisade, and Fruita Monument high Schools. Fruita 8/9 will also have additional security on campus.
According to information released by the School District, added security at those schools will allow school resource officers and other district safety team members to spread out to other schools.
The information also states they are in the process of hiring additional permanent security as part of the district's goal of making students, staff, and parents feel safe and comfortable while at school.
The other key component of keeping schools safe is for everyone to report anything that could potentially be a threat to a school. Notifying school security, staff, or police by calling 911.
Students can also use Safe2Tell which is an anonymous reporting system that can be accessed by calling 877-542-7233, through the Safe2Tell website or by downloading the Safe2Tell app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
