One of the benefits of being a part of the Colorado wildlife community is you get to abide by a different set of rules than the humans.

Facebooker Alicia Neidigh was fortunate enough to capture a wondrous sight the other day near Gunnison. Being in the right place at the right time, Alicia managed to get this video of an extremely large herd of elk ignoring Colorado's stay at home order and social distancing rules. They are packed closely together for their annual spring migration. What a magnificent sight!

Colorado is home to some 300,000 elk, with the largest elk herds located in the northern half of the White River National Forest, north of Interstate 70. One hundred years ago, the state's elk population was around 2,000. We've come a long way.

Thanks to good folks like Alicia who are lucky enough to capture Colorado wildlife on video and share it with the rest of us, we can enjoy and appreciate some of the state's great wildlife - from a safe social distance.
