East Troublesome Fire Moves Into Rocky Mountain National Park

The East Troublesome Fire has been growing quickly over the past few days, ravaging the city of Granby and forcing evacuations in Estes Park.

On Wednesday October 21, RMNP officials reported in a press release that the East Troublesome Fire moved towards the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, causing "minimal" structure loss in the park.

On Thursday morning, October 22, the fire was reported to have moved to the east side of the Continental Divide, spotted a couple of miles from the head of Spruce Creek. Thanks to high humidity levels, the fire stopped its quick spread and remained in that general location.

However, weather conditions on each side of the divide differed greatly, which is why we saw such a strong spread of the fire on the east side, with strong wind and low humidity moving the fire north, towards the Coyote Valley Trailhead.

Evacuation orders are in place for Estes Park as all of Rocky Mountain National Park remains closed, but with numerous trees downed on the west side of Trail Ridge Road, that area was blocked as an evacuation route. Heavy traffic was noted in Estes Park last night (October 22) as residents tried desperately to leave the city.
