What Happens When the Broncos Lose? Coloradans Reach for the Booze
Judging by the results of the Denver Broncos' last game, Colorado residents are drinking this week.
According to a new survey from Alchohol.org, Broncos fans drink more when the team loses than when the team wins. Unsurprisingly, the website also found that Coloradans' drink of choice is craft beer.
Fans of the Detroit Lions, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Tennesse Titans share the Centennial State's penchant for boozing after a loss.
On the other hand, fans of teams like the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Baltimore Ravens prefer raising a glass to a victory.
However, drowning your sorrows (or celebrating) with alcohol isn't always the best idea.
"When you're caught up in the hype of a football game, it can be gut-wrenching to see your team lose after having played against a rival team. It's tempting to drown your sorrows in these instances, but equally as tempting to celebrate if the game ends on a high and your team wins," said a spokesperson for Alchohol.org. "If this excessive drinking continues repeatedly, such as each and every game or week of the season, it might suggest a more troubling relationship with alcohol and could be time to seek out further information and medical assistance."
To avoid binge drinking during football season, the website recommends trying mocktails, starting sober traditions, or avoiding rowdy watch parties.
Perhaps you can keep these recommendations in mind when if the Broncos lose again. If you or a loved one are struggling with alcoholism, learn more about how to get help from the American Addition Centers here.
