The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office arrested a CSU-Pueblo student on Tuesday, Sept. 21 after they found him in possession of a large collection of loaded weapons and ammunition. The weapons were stored on campus grounds.

According to the release from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Robert James Killis had raised suspicion after reportedly making some threatening statements that concerned and alerted deputies.

Killis, a prior military member, was reportedly being monitored by Pueblo County Sheriff deputies as they are the law enforcement agency that oversees responsibility for the Pueblo campus.

Deputies started monitoring Killis on Monday, Sept. 20, and could plainly see ammunition and a bulletproof vest in the bed of Killis' 2020 Chevy Silverado.

After seeing the potential evidence in the truck, deputies obtained a search warrant for the Silverado and Killis's on-campus apartment. Deputies reportedly detained Killis at a restaurant off campus because they wanted to be able to make contact with him safely away from school grounds.

When questioned, Killis admitted to weapons in his truck, and deputies found a semi-automatic rifle that was loaded, a shotgun, and a handgun. Magazines were also reportedly set up tactically in the truck with other tactical equipment and additional ammunition.

In Killis' apartment, detectives found another handgun and about 100 rounds of ammunition, among other items they deemed "suspicious".

CSU-Pueblo has strict rules about weapons on campus. When detectives were finished, Killis was arrested for "unlawful carrying/possessing a weapon on a university campus in accordance with CRS 18-12-105.5". He is currently booked into the Pueblo County Jail.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office has assured the community there will be additional law enforcement presence on campus for the time being. They also want anyone to come forward with anything they consider suspicious or threatening.
