Colorado Woman Planned to Escape From Jail

The woman accused of killing her stepson in Colorado Springs has just been discovered to have been concocting a plan to escape from jail.

The woman, 36-year-old Leticia Stauch was arrested on March 2nd after fleeing to South Carolina on suspicion that she murdered her 11-year-old stepson while covering up the crime with a story claiming he ran away.

Now, letters were discovered in the El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs where Stauch detailed a plan to escape from her cell. Her plan was to acquire a broom, break the window in her cell and escape through the broken window.

However, her plan was discovered when the recipient of the letters, another inmate, gave two of them to prison guards. They then raided Stauch's cell and found another letter detailing her plan to escape.

Although I don't have much experience with jails, I really feel like in this day and age, it would be almost impossible to escape. Plus, even if an inmate was to escape, they would be in constant danger of being caught on the outside. Their fingerprints are on file, and they would need to create an entirely new identity in order to remain free from being caught.

I think of the film The Shawshank Redemption and how hard Tim Robbins' character had to work, for years, to finally escape prison.

Stauch is attending court today for escape charges and will return to court tomorrow for her previous charges for the murder of her stepson.
